While having a quiet day in my room at the solar-powered Omenma Hotels, I thought, what is really the brouhaha about DNA/Paternity tests? Why is it causing a lot of uproars? Why are some women strongly against it? Is it the right thing to do? Should trust override the need for DNA/Paternity test?
Understandably, an unfavourable result would break up a lot of homes and thus, many women oppose it. I mean, who wants to break up an otherwise peace, normal home on account of prints on a piece of paper?
As I ate the wonderful meal the Room Service brought to my room, I wondered, is DNA test fair to women? My thoughts were influenced by the fact that if a man should sleep outside his home and bear a child, he simply raises the child, sometimes, openly and all hell don’t break loose. So why should the DNA test cause many problems for the women especially? It’s not fair.
Then the flavour of the Egusi soup hit a spot and I wondered again, maybe its the deceit that is more painful to the men than the actual result. Maybe the lack of trust moving forward is the problem. If Tobenna is not my child, maybe Oluebube is not too. Soooo, this woman has been deceiving me for years. Am I going to raise my colleague, Kayode’s son in my house? I never even liked him at the office.
I washed my hands and made a note to tip the chef at Omenma Hotels. He or she is really good. Then I thought if this were to happen to you, what would be your reaction? If you are already married with kids, this question would be well suited for your consideration because we are not talking of imaginary children but your current kids. It is not easy to stop loving an innocent child you have always loved as your daughter.
What would you really do if you discovered your kids are not yours as a result of DNA test? Start life afresh? Sending her and the kids away would simply cause sorrow for everyone including yourself. What do you really do? Do you even need the test? She got one over you, live with your L? In real life, this is a big dilemma.
This Omenma hotel is just good. I have been here for a week and the light has not blinked even once. It’s like I’m in another world. See you in the comments.
