Chijioke and His ‘Village People’

Once upon a time in Lagos, Chijioke, a banker who loved farming on the side, decided he needed a little “village vibes” at his office. So he bought a small scent-leaf looking plant in a pot to bring that “touch of nature” to his otherwise gray cubicle. He named it Omo Spice.

Now, Omo Spice was no ordinary plant. From the very first week, strange things began happening. Chijioke would leave a perfectly organized desk at the close of work, but each morning, things looked… suspiciously “scattered.” His biro would be missing, papers would be shuffled, and somehow his garri stash in the drawer was always running low. His colleagues teased him, saying maybe Omo Spice was “flexing” too much.

One evening, determined to catch the “culprit,” Chijioke stayed back at the office, hiding behind the door with his phone ready. After an hour, he heard a faint rustle. Peeking out, he saw Omo Spice slowly leaning toward his drawer. Then, in one smooth motion, a tiny bunch of leafy hands sprouted, the longest one stretching like an arm to scoop a handful of garri with a spoon!

Chijioke’s jaw dropped as Omo Spice stuffed its little “mouth” with his precious garri, nodding in satisfaction. He watched, speechless, as the plant took a swig of water from his water bottle and then quickly shuffled back to its pot as if nothing happened.

Chijioke woke up the next morning suddenly. He shirt was soaked with sweat. It was all a dream. He got to the office feeling very dazed. Maybe its malaria. Just before he settled down on his desk, his colleague, Adewale walked in happily with a green leafy flower plant and announced; “This is my new plant friend. I have named it Omo Spice.”

Wahala no dey hard to start.

Have a great day ahead.
